I recently had the chance to chat with Christopher Murry, frontman for Illuminate Me, about what the group has in store for the future and about their new album! See what he had to say!
Please introduce yourself and your band and who does what for the group!
I’m Christopher Murray the singer of Illuminate Me.
Anthony Burke plays guitar
Sebastian Quintero plays guitar
Kevin Hatton plays bass
Corey Jacobsen plays drums
and Chris Jacobsen is our other guitar player, but he does not tour with the band. He writes a lot of what we do, but he prefers running his studio over touring for the moment.
What should fans expect of your new album?
No gimmicks, just aggression. It’s fast, pissed off, and chaotic.
What has been your greatest challenge in recording and how did you overcome it?
For me personally when I first started recording years ago it was tracking vocals in front of other people, but now I’m pretty over that.
What are your favorite lyrics from the record and why?
Probably “You never gave me a true reason to bleed, so I don’t give a fuck if you abandon me” from Apples to Whoranges. When I wrote that it basically meant to me that even if the people closest to me end up leaving for selfish reasons, that I’ll be able to overcome it and become stronger from it. It’s happened plenty of times before, and it never discouraged me enough to stop trying.
What was it like working with very talented frontman from other successful groups (Garrett Rapp of The Color Morale, Jerry Roush of Glasscloud, and Landon Tewers of The Plot in You)?
It was awesome. Each one of them were so down to earth and so nice about everything. They all really liked what we were doing and thats a great feeling to have coming from people you sort of looked up to or heard so much about growing up.
What goals do you have for the future of the band?
A lot more touring. As much as possible. We’ve been giving 110% on these DIY tours we’ve been booking and even if we’re only playing to 10 or 15 kids we still give it our absolute all. So more tours, and another album in the future of coarse.
Do you currently have any tour plans in the works?
We do, one with Everyone Dies In Utah that will hopefully be announced soon, and a few other tours here and there that aren’t exactly official yet, but its getting there.
If you could create your own dream tour who would you be touring with and where would you be going?
The Dillinger Escape Plan
Every Time I Die
and we would tour everywhere ever \m/
Who has been your biggest musical inspiration?
Growing up it was either Bert Mccraken or Gerard Way, I looked up to both of them a lot.
If you could have dinner with any musician (dead or alive) who would it be and why?
Kurt Cobain, as probably cliche as it sounds. I feel like I could probably learn a lot.
Do you have anything to say to fans?
Thanks to anyone that cares about what we’re doing, or supports us in anyway. It does a lot more than you think, and we sincerely hope you stick around for whats to come next for the band.
